Menya Musashi is one of the most popular ramen shops in Japan, and when they first opened in Singapore, there was a lot of hype and the wait during meal times was easily at least an hour. Nowadays, the queue is not as crazy as before, and it is also partly because Menya Musashi has five outlets around the island.
Menya offers three different types of ramen – ‘White’, ‘Red’ and ‘Black. The classic is the ‘White’ Ramen, a hearty bowl of springy noodles in a thick and rich tonkatsu broth. My favourite – and what I would go back to enjoy time and time again – is the ’Red’ Ramen which comes with a spicy and intense broth. The ‘Black’ Ramen with garlic and onions, on the other hand, is a little too oily for my liking.
Every branch has the same ramen soup bases, but they serve different toppings. The aburi duck is good, but it pales in comparison when the toothsome kakuni (braised pork belly) comes into the picture. The same goes for the chashu. It is good, but I have had better ones elsewhere, so whenever I dine at Menya Musashi, I always make sure to have the Red Ramen with Kakuni.
One of the reasons why Menya Musashi’s ramen is so special is because of the broth. It is boiled for more than nine hours, and the chef has to stir it every half an hour to prevent the bottom from being burned.
There are mixed reviews about Menya Musashi. There are many supporters who would rave about the ramen and go as far as to say that it is one of the best ramen in Singapore. There are also others who find it over-hyped and do not understand why it is so popular. I appreciate Menya Musashi because the ramen is always consistently good. And now that it is available in Singapore, I am glad that we no longer need to fly to Tokyo just to satisfy our ramen cravings.

I just went to your restaurant on last Friday 14 March 2014 for dinner. Most of your staff are indian and once they serve my bowl of ramen, i realised is my ramen soup is so little and it looks like dry ramen to me. So i inform one of the indian man to top up the soup for me as it is totally looks like dry ramen. So the indian man take my bowl of ramen, few minutes later he come back with my bowl of ramen and shake he only shake his head and said ‘NO’. I was like?? why my ramen still look dry? there come another indian, i informed him again and said can you top up the soup for me? i haven’t eat and it already looks like dry dry ramen. Same situation, he took my ramen for fews minutes.. and come back said manager said cannot and just put on my table without saying anything. I really fedup and end up eating my so call soup ramen and it is dry and at the end no one seems to come to me and say anything, even i do not know who is the manager. I hope you can really look into this matter. I have went to Westgade, your service is good there. I don’t now why Bugis town area and your service is worst.
Yes dear Jessie, it’s a conspiracy of “Indians” to feed you dry ramen. Quite racist of you to make a point of their ethnicity. Maybe you deserve no ramen at all…
Jessie, do you know that this is a personal review? You deserve no ramen just based on this.
Jessie, judging from your standard of written english, maybe your ‘indian’ servers couldn’t understand what you were saying . Perhaps you should try improving the way you communicate instead of illogically blaming your servers’ ethnicity. Seriously,
ridiculous and racist.
Last Saturday, I went to Menya Msusahi at Bugis. I want to compliant that this the worst restaurant I ever went to.
1. The soup was horrible, think they get free supply of salt.
2. The service was very very poor. when we ask for water, they waitress simply push the iPad to us. No instruction, no smile, it is like we are bagger
3. The cashier also have very very bad manners. Not a word of thank, and did not even a smile on his face.
This restaurant simply sucks and do not qualify to charge us the service charge.
