Maldives is our idea of paradise. Taking a holiday at the Maldives is a dream for many, because this place is so extremely picturesque, idyllic and serene. It takes beach holiday to a whole new arena, and the tranquility and luxury is second to none.
Think of waking up in a postcard; that was how we felt every day during our one-week stay. The water is clear and boasts a subtle gradient of blues, the palm trees sway with such grace; even the cocktails stand so effortlessly pretty against the vast Indian Ocean, and the schools of little fishes that hang out around the water villas can keep everyone’s eyes so peeled.
“The sunny side of life” is indeed truly Maldivian, but we’d say “eat well, live well and take a holiday to Maldives.” Because you have worked really hard, and because you deserve a break. If you need any more convincing, here are 10 reasons to fall in love with Maldives:
#1 SNORKELLING IS A PRICELESS AND LIBERATING EXPERIENCE – ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU DO IT IN THE CLEAR AND BEAUTIFUL WATERS IN MALDIVES
Anyone can snorkel! It is easy, it is fun, and the close proximity with the ocean friends is an experience never to be forgotten. You can snorkel at the open sea, or at the foot of your water villa. Just be mindful to not hurt any coral reefs! And, finding Nemo, anyone? We found many!
#2 CATCH THE SUNSET WITH YOUR LOVED ONE
There are many romantic things to do with your loved one, and they aren’t always costly. Catching the sunset at Maldives is one of them, and as simple as it may be, it is one rewarding experience that will always be etched in your heart. Have a cocktail by the beach or bar and catch the sunset.
#3 GO DIVING AND ENJOY SEA SPORTS
Dive deep and explore the world under us. Surround yourself with the wondrous marine life, and have the time of your life diving at Maldives! And even more adventure awaits. Go sailing, kayak-ing and parasailing. These activities are usually guided or come with briefing and training, so that your safety is ensured. And, don’t forget your Go-pro!
#4 INDULGE IN ROMANTIC BEACHFRONT DINING
If candlelit dinners are too mainstream for you, you have the option of splurging on a beachfront dining when at Maldives – where you enjoy a space of your own, and own a part of the beach for the night as you sip champagne and enjoy your steak.
#5 WAKING UP TO THE OCEAN IN A WATER VILLA IS SUCH A MAGICAL EXPERIENCE
You deserve this luxury. Wake up to the ocean right before your eyes, and snuggle under your sheets while watching the sun rise. Spend your day sunbathing, at your private dock, and star-gaze at night. This is truly a Maldivian experience, and we can tell you it is so worth working hard and saving up for.
#6 TAKE INSTAGRAM-WORTHY PHOTOS
You will be the envy of all your followers. Capture every moment and beautify your timeline with the endless photo spots. Maldives is indeed a live postcard and your collection will be among the best in your life. Bring all your favourite bikinis and swimwear, and don’t you worry a thing about excess baggage – trust us, it will be worth the while.
#7 MAKE FRIENDS WITH FISHES
Because true friendship knows no boundaries, right? The fishes at Maldives come in all shapes and sizes, and they are fascinating to watch. We could spend all morning just gazing at and feeding them from our water villa.
#8 DO NOTHING AND WATCH THE WORLD GO BY
Well, isn’t this the best thing to do? Throw away all your fears, forget your stress and problems, and just let time tick by as you marvel in the tiniest of beauty of your surrounding, and take in all of life.
#9 LIFE ON A HAMMOCK
We’d love to think that the hammock is one of the coolest places to take an afternoon nap at. Hey, dreamer! Are you with us on this?
#10 ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, IF NOT THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH IN ASIA
We have been to many beaches in Asia, but nothing comes close – maybe except for Boracay – to Maldives. The water is crystal clear and exceptionally beautiful, and comes with a gradient of blues. The big blue skies and the Indian Ocean merge as one, and the sight makes one fine postcard.
It would be good if you could disclose who paid for your trip. Just for the sake of transparency.
@Patrick It would be good if you could realize that this is an editorial post and we bore the costs of all expenses. For all advertorials and sponsored trips, we practice including a one-liner at the end of the post – that should be the transparency you are talking about, and in this case, if there isn’t any, it further reiterates my point that we paid for everything on our own.
what hotels/ villas would you recommend? my fiance and i are planning for a honeymoon there.
@Rhea We stayed at Centara Fas Fushi during this trip. We paid about S$900/night for our water villa including full board. The resort is really gorgeous and we have no complains, except that the food options were not fantastic. There are many resorts at around the same price point, so you might want to do your research before deciding. Hope this helps.
I enjoy reading through website but one thing that puts me off from visiting the Maldives are the politics there. See this NYT article:

It seems like an especially difficult place for women. It’s one thing to travel somewhere for work or other responsibilities but when it comes to vacationing, I don’t want my dollars supporting an especially oppressive regime.
A few years ago, people in my family wanted to visit Dubai and I directed them away from that country too.
Your pictures! Excessively gorgeous, porn for the average office worker bee. Did you take all the photos here yourself? This post should be NSFW
