Are you sick of the ubiquitous cafes in Singapore? Perhaps it is time for café hoppers to start looking across the Causeway. The growth of hipster coffee shops has extended beyond Singapore’s national borders and spilled into nearby Malaysian city Johor Bahru.
There is even a street in Johor Bahru unanimously coined by visitors as ‘Hipster Street’! The stretch of road is called Jalan Dhoby and is home to several up-and-coming cafes.
And Bev C Cafe has stood out effortlessly with its unpretentious entrance and homely rustic interiors. Technically speaking, Bev C is not just a café, but also a fashion boutique store. The shop house loft is simply sleek and sick (in a good way) – we love every part of it and will definitely be back.
The ground floor showcases Malaysian fashion label The Girl Next Door, where you can shop for edgy attention-grabbing statement pieces. If fashion apparel and accessories are not what you are looking for, head upstairs for its co-shop Bev C Café.
Beverely is the founder and designer behind The Girl Next Door and Bev C Cafe. Her unique style can be experienced from her works and we love the tasteful interior design of the entire place. They even have a sketchbook for all to scribble and draw on.
The food menu is simple and honest. The best selling desserts are the decadent White Chocolate Truffle Pie (RM12.90) and citrusy Lemon Strawberry Pie (RM12.90). Savoury items are also up for grabs and you should try their Charcoal Croissants with chicken ham.
Spend the day catching up with friends over a cup of cappucino (RM 7.90) or flat white (RM 7.90). If you are looking for cold beverages to cool yourself down from the scorching heat, order the refreshing Lemon Tea Ice Cube Drink (RM 12.90) and popular Espresso Ice Cube Drink with Chocolate (RM 12.90).
