Dessert Collage

Desserts. We eat them whenever we are angry, bored, happy or sad.

It is true that they make us feel better, even if it is just a temporary relief. But living in the world’s most expensive city means we often have to fork out ridiculous amounts just for a pretty dessert. Well, the good news is – that’s not always the case, as long as you look hard enough. Or know where to look.

Our team has expanded our waistlines just to curate this guide of affordable and delicious sweet treats in Singapore that everyone can seek comfort from without breaking the bank. You are welcome.

We present to you The Ultimate Guide To 30 Awesome Desserts Under S$8 In Singapore.

Butter Studio Nutella Tart

BUTTER STUDIO – SEA SALT NUTELLA TART

As much as we love Butter Studio’s amazing cupcakes, the Sea Salt Nutella Tart (S$6.90) was too divine to pass up. Baked fresh daily, the centre had the ideal balance of both sea salt and hazelnut chocolate flavours with a nice crust base.

Cake Spade Strawberry Cheesecake

CAKE SPADE – STRAWBERRY TOFU CHEESECAKE

For just S$5.90, you get a beautifully made Strawberry Tofu Cheesecake. The texture of the cheesecake itself is so bouncy yet smooth, and the strawberry flavours were strong enough, without overpowering the taste of the cheese. This provides a lighter option to the traditional dense cheesecakes.

CIEL PATISSERIE – LEMON MERINGUE TART

A heartland patisserie that boasts a menu of French desserts, Ciel Patisserie is a hidden gem. Unassuming but very surprising, this small patisserie has a wholesome range of cakes and tarts that are mostly priced under S$6.

We have said this before and we will say this again—Ciel Patisserie’s Lemon Meringue Tart (S$4.50) stands out for its perfect balance of sweet and tart. Definitely one of the best lemon tarts you can find in Singapore.

Churro 101

CHURRO101 – DARK CHOCOLATE-DIPPED CHURROS

The reason why Churro101′s churros are so incredibly tasty is that each churro is pressed and fried a la minute per order. We love the Dark Chocolate-Dipped Churro (S$5.90) rolled in a strawberry crunch. The chocolate was amazing as it was served to us dripping warm, but the strawberry crunch did not make a huge impact on the overall taste in each bite.

creamier peanut butter jelly ice-cream

CREAMIER – PEANUT BUTTER JELLY ICE-CREAM

Peanut butter jelly sandwiches were a nostalgic childhood staple for many children and we were thrilled that Creamier’s Peanut Butter Jelly Ice-Cream (S$4.20) tasted exactly the same – except that it is in an ice-cold dessert form. Peanut butter fans must give this a go! Eating the ice-cream was akin to eating the thick PBJ jam right from the old-school Skippy container.

Double Scoops’ gelato offerings are all made fresh in-store and they have a huge range of flavours. Our two personal favourite ones are Thai Milk Tea and Sea Salt Gula Melaka (S$6 for two scoops). The former tastes exactly just sipping an authentic Thai Iced Milk Tea on a warm day in Bangkok.

NOOK & CRANNY – COCONUT TARO ICE-CREAM

Nook & Cranny’s (previously known as Five by Five) Coconut Ice-Cream (S$4.80 per scoop) is wonderfully infused with taro and packs a puch with every mouthful. Rich, creamy and containing bits of coconut flesh, we are guilty of returning endlessly for it.

KANE MOCHI – MOCHI ICE CREAM

Mochi and ice cream is a combination we never want to stop enjoying. Choose three different mochi flavours and they will slice them up for you in a cup to enjoy for just S$5. Our favourites are Cookies & Cream and Taro. The former is filled with cookie bits and they are all not overly sweet, something we can appreciate.

Eclairs

MAISON KAYSER – ECLAIR

This bakery has long been known for offering fluffy and delicious bread. But their selection of eclairs (S$3.70) blew us away. They include flavours such as lychee, original, coffee and more. The choux pastry itself was tasty and the added flavoured creams and toppings only made it better.

Mr Churro Churros

MR. CHURRO – CHURROS WITH CHOCOLATE

With a slightly different way of serving as compared to Churro101, Mr.Churro’s churros are sliced up in a cone-shaped holder and drizzled on top generously with chocolate. The Nutty Churro (S$5.90) is our favourite as it is sprinkled generously with nuts on top for a good crunch with every bite.

old school icecream

OLD-SCHOOL ICE-CREAM

Walk down Orchard Road and you will spot a few ice-cream vendors from far by their striking umbrellas. Typically run by the older Singapore generation, this ice-cream business is a dying trade that might cease to exist in a few decades. Choose from a wide variety of flavours (S$1.20 each) such as chocolate chip, raspberry ripple and durian etc—where you can have it in a bread, cone or cup.

Oyoge Taiyaki

OYOGE TAIYAKAI – MOCHI TAIYAKI WITH DARK CHOCOLATE

While we love Oyoge Taiyaki’s Grape Soft Serve with tastes pleasantly of Kyoho grapes, it is not always in stock as they regularly rotate their flavours. However, the Mochi Taiyaki is always in stock. We especially love the one stuffed with heaps of dark chocolate (S$3) for a very sinful treat.

Royal Pudding

PARIS BAGUETTE – ROYAL PUDDING

As a cult-favourite pudding, we have yet to have a pudding similar to this in terms of flavour and consistency. The original Royal Pudding (S$4) is also available in other flavours such as chocolate and strawberry. It is light and not overly rich or sweet to create a very palatable overall taste.

Sinpopo Marshmallow Cheesecake

SINPOPO BRAND – MARSHMALLOW CHEESECAKE

The Marshmallow Cheesecake (S$7++) is a new dessert addition that deserves to be raved about. The sweet treat has successfully combined the contrasting textures of stickiness, softness and crumbliness into a divine creation. You can expect a dense New York-style Cheesecake – with a crumbly base – covered with torched marshmallow fluff. Sinful yet delicious.

Shaved Ice Singapore

SMOOTHIE HOUSE – SNOWFLAKE ICE INTO-GO CUPS

The Snowflake Ice at Smoothie House are probably one of the best we have ever tried as they use actual flavoured ice with fresh fruit. Their affordable to-go cups are priced only at S$6.90 so it is extremely value-for-money. We suggest going right for the mango flavour to experience thick and sweet chunks of freshly-cut mangoes.

THE MATCHA PROJECT – MATCHA SOFTSERVE

TO-GATHER CAFE – HOMEMADE HOJICHA SWISS ROLL

To-gather Cafe’s Homemade Hojicha Swiss Roll with Thick Hojicha Shot (S$5.90) uses premium Hojicha powder imported directly from Japan! The idea of serving the dessert with a shot of Hojicha Latte is so that you can take sips in between bites because most Swiss rolls tend to be dry; yes, we were so incredibly impressed by this “little touch”.

Windowsill Pies’ Strawberry Lemon Tart (S$7.50) is unlike any other lemon tarts.
