A celebrated stalwart in Singapore’s city centre, Pan Pacific Singapore’s multifaceted buffet restaurant, Edge, is one that never fails to take our breath away. Exuding a marvellous theatrical spread, the team of chefs bring to the fore flavours and delicacies from all over the globe with a menu that constantly changes and evolves. With 7 interactive live food theatres, 16 food stations (at least) and over a hundred dishes to choose from, this is one buffet restaurant that’ll push your appetite to the edge—literally.
We’ve always been avid fans of their weekday buffets. And just when we think that things couldn’t get any better, they go and pull off something as incredible as a Sunday brunch that encompasses everything you could ever want in a perfect weekend from a botanical gin cocktail bar stocked with a wide selection of top-tier labels, premium seafood on ice, a temple of desserts and so much more.
There’s something for everyone, even the little ones. From an onsite balloon sculptor to a newly furnished kid’s playroom that comes with their very own buffet spread, games and more, there’s no doubt that your little ones will be in for an epic Sunday. And while the kids are kept entertained, why not indulge even further with unlimited glasses of Veuve Clicquot Champagne, cocktails and G&Ts?
Happening every Sunday from 17th March to 26th May 2019, this feast fit for a king is one that’s worth the splurge. Sundays are for sleeping in for many, but for us, a good brunch trumps the extra hours of shut-eye.
For our readers, you may quote “ladyironchef” upon making reservations to enjoy the non-alcohol package at S$98++ adults, S$49++ Child, or the alcoholic package at S$178++ that’s inclusive of free-flow Veuve Clicquot Champagne.
A SASHIMI LOVER’S DREAM
A heavy hitter among the Japanese food-obsessed, Edge’s Japanese station goes far beyond your typical sushi and miso soup. Segregated into different parts, diners can choose to luxuriate in hearty deep-fried tempura, enjoy soba noodles, chicken karage and more! And don’t even get us started on their wide array of sashimi options.
On weekends, their options go far beyond their usual trio of salmon, tuna and octopus, featuring the likes of hamachi (Japanese amberjack) as well. Hand-sliced upon order, each strip of fish is thick, meaty and fresh-tasting.
TRIO OF FRESH OYSTERS ON THE HALF SHELL
Boasting a wide selection of deliciously sweet premium crustaceans from Alaskan king crabs to Boston lobsters and shellfish of sorts, one can never go wrong by beginning at the seafood on ice station. Oysters are a luxury and you’ll be happy to know that Edge makes available not just one variety, but three.
WHOLE ALASKAN KING CRAB LEG STATION
A new addition to their Sunday brunch lineup is the Whole Alaskan King Crab Leg station where diners can enjoy unlimited servings of this fleshy behemoth of a crab lightly poached in a court bouillon—or in simpler terms, a flavourful, aromatic broth used to poaching fish and shellfish—and served simply with fresh, crispy iceberg lettuce and an velvety smooth mustard butter sauce.
The flavourful broth elevated simply with a few sprigs of fresh herbs, a mirepoix (carrots, onion & celery), bay leaf and white wine, pairs exceptionally well with the sweet crab, giving the crustacean a nice aromatic lift and an even greater depth of flavour.
A SUNDAY ROAST EXPERIENCE
If you’ve never experienced a proper British Sunday roast, Edge will have you wishing for it every weekend. Over at the live carving station, neatly assembled on carving boards in all its colossal, meaty glory is a selection of roast meat delights.
Choose from the Mustard Roast Beef Prime Ribs—served with a side of roasted spuds and a bordelaise jus—, Deep-Fried Whole Spring Chicken with Herbs and Garlic, Lamb Rack with Herb Crust and a Chorizo and Chestnut-stuffed Roast Duck. Hand-carved upon request, every slice glistens and oozes with indescribable succulence. Unless you’re vegetarian, there’s no reason why anybody should give the live carving station a miss.
FLAVOURS OF EUROPE
Taking up residence along the line as you venture past the roast meats and pasta section is a section dedicated to the flavours and signature dishes of Europe. Whether you crave the rich, robust flavours of Spain in the form of a hearty seafood paella or a fancy truffle scented angel hair pasta adorned with caviar, this section has it all.
KIMBERLEY STREET KWAY CHAP
Going with a more Asian-forward lineup, the buffet line sees some pretty new and intriguing additions such as a corner dedicated to the tastes and flavours of Thailand. But perhaps the one station that caught our eye was their new kway chap station, dishing out hearty, flavour-packed bowls of Kimberley Street-style kway chap.
For the uninitiated, this particular style of kway chap originates from Penang, Malaysia where it is a common street food favourite, and it comprises a variety of offal and tender braised duck meat served in a herbal flavoured broth. The dish boasts an aromatic, herbal aroma but is underscored by a meaty, savoury flavour that is oh-so-comforting.
CHARCOAL WAFFLES CORNER
Savoury waffles are totally the in thing right now and what the chefs here have done with their own rendition of the said dish is off the charts. Sitting pretty on a crispy charcoal waffle, a truffle cheese sous vide egg, deep-fried baby squid, sambal Boston lobster, spinach and a spicy hollandaise sauce.
BOTANICAL GIN COCKTAIL STATION
Nothing takes the edge off quite like a refreshing gin & tonic and perhaps one station that’s unique to Edge’s Sunday brunch lineup—and a hit among the grownups—is their botanical gin cocktail bar.
Well-stocked with over 10 labels and a variety of condiments to spice up your G&Ts with, this is, hands down, one of the favourite parts of the entire buffet—for obvious reasons.
KID’S PLAY AREA & KIDS BUFFET LINE
At Edge’s Sunday brunch, there’s truly something for everyone—for the moms, the dads and especially the little ones. A new addition to the restaurant is a fully converted kid’s area that is well stocked with everything from colouring materials, toys and even an onsite balloon sculptor to entertain the little ones while the adults eat.
The area even comes with its own mini buffet line, featuring the likes of nuggets, French fries, Oreo cookies, mini beef sliders and even a cotton candy machine!
